Baro Design is a Mumbai based studio that brings design into our daily lives through focus on handcrafted furniture and lighting.

The vision is to create the possibility of awareness in our lives.

By designing meaningful objects that inspire us to pause, reflect, and discover ourselves just that little bit more. 

We decided to marry the lightness and play of modern palates to the gravity of old wood and time-honoured craft techniques. The approach is old school, relying on traditional wood joinery methods, but the result is as timeless as it is contemporary.  

At Baro Design, we wish to celebrate the slow passage of time, expanding each simple moment into its fullest.

We work with reclaimed teak for its age and quality, and to keep our world sustainable. There is a long history hidden in the grains of this wood. Grains closer together mark years of slow growth, possibly from drought; while periods of ample rainfall will reflect in the grain being further apart. The tree’s entire life is recorded in this blue print. Post that, it also lived a life in a home possibly, where generations may have passed under its presence, some of them leaving indelible marks. The wood is painstakingly brought to an exquisite finish using layers of linseed oil and beeswax, to allow for us to peer directly into its heart. 

We manufacture all our furniture in our workshop in Mumbai to ensure the highest standards of quality and finish.
